While I'm still learning about having a green thumb, I know what a difference a live plant can make to a room! So my newest obsession in decorating is finding different ways to incorporate plants indoors, hence this adorable (and super easy!) hanging planter that I made in a matter of just a couple hours. Keeping true to my money saving self, everything that I used in the project was left over from previous projects & things already on hand! So total cost = $0 !!!! I made two of these pretty little planters - one for my more formal living room & one for the family room. The shelf is scrap from the shelving used in my laundry room project, then I just needed twine, spray paint (you could use stain & wood for a more raw look too!) and glass containers for my plants - all of which I already had! If you don't have these things on hand they're still very affordable items! First things first, I spray painted the shelves in colors that would coordinate with my rooms. Once dried, I drilled 4 holes straight through the wood (two on each side) for the twine to be threaded through. The trickiest part of this whole project is making sure that your twine is the right length so that you don't have a a leaning shelf! I cut the two pieces close to the same length, but the front piece should be slightly longer because it's going to be pushed back toward the wall and hang on a single nail. Once threaded through the holes, tie a knot to keep it from slipping back through. That's literally it! Now you just hang it on a single nail and add a cute plant. I used clippings from a philodendron plant that I was given by my mother in law - the EASIEST plant to keep alive for my fellow accidental plant killers! It can survive in water alone & will grow long and vine so you can trim off pieces as they get to long & add them to other vases like I did for this project or just let them hang! Succulents would also be really cute with this project. Let me know if you try this out & post your pictures in the comments below! XO - Kathleen
