When we purchased our house almost a year ago (wow! I cannot believe it's almost been a year already!) we knew that we wanted to replace the carpet in the family room. It was the only room that wasn't hard surface flooring and it's the room with the door leading to the backyard - so lots of traffic in and out. Carpet is not ideal for this space. As time has gone on, I discovered that I also despise the ceramic tile in the kitchen, eating area & laundry room (it all flows together). Now don't get me wrong, ceramic tile as a whole is a great flooring option, but the one in our kitchen - yuck! It's kind of got a cottage-y, cobblestone feel to it. Its not clean lined, the edges are wavy (giving that cobblestone feel), the tile itself is textured, and the grout is gray (on purpose, but even more gray because it doesn't stay clean. The texture to the tile makes it impossible to keep clean, no matter how many times I clean; if I scrub with a scrubber on my hands & knees or with a mop and bucket it still does not look clean. Knowing what kind of work it entails to pull up ceramic tile however, I was trying to just live with it. Then something amazing happened! I learned a little more about luxury vinyl tile. I had our floors picked out almost immediately after we moved in, but life happened and we just never got around to replacing that family room carpet. I was browsing at our local flooring store and noticed a similar floor to the one that I wanted. So, I asked if there was much of a difference in the floor itself or the price. Low and behold I found out through our conversation that the floors that I had chosen could be laid right ON TOP OF CERAMIC TILE! What?!?!? This is life changing. I instantly said, "people need to know about this!" Hence my post today. The two brands that I chose from. I ultimately went with the Floorte only because they had the "wood" that I was looking for.I decided that I wanted to share the differences, pros & cons and some good brands of each type of flooring with you guys. So after a little research and some questions for my flooring guy, I have all the information that you'll need! Hardwood
Laminate
Luxury Vinyl Planks
I hope this has proven to helpful to you in deciding which type of floors will work best for you! And if your local to NWI stop by Carpenter Flooring in Crown Point and see Kevin Brooks!
